The four star Parador La Arruzafa at Cordoba gets its name from being built on the site of the small summer palace of the Arab caliph Abdu'r-Raman who in 765 AD planted the first palm trees in Europe (Arruzafa being Arabic for "garden of the palm trees"). The Parador de Cordoba is 3km from the town on a hill surrounded by vegetation at the foot of the Cordoba mountain range. It offers an exceptional view of the legendary city of the caliphs and stands in large grounds with a swimming pool, tennis court and many orange and palm trees.
The 82 elegant twin, 4 double, two single rooms and 6 suites are bright and airy and come equipped with air conditioning and heating, a private bathroom, satellite television, a telephone and mini bar. The elegant and spacious public rooms have decor which combines Arabic and Andalusian influences with earthy colours, wood floors and an abundance of plants.
The dining room serves local specialities including "salmorejo cordobés" (cold vegetable soup), "gazpacho blanco de almendras" (cold almond soup) and steak in green sauce
In or near the Parador de Cordoba guests can swim, play tennis, ride horses, go walking or play golf. This is a beautiful area to explore with the Pedroches Valley which has the biggest oak forest in Europe and has a very important wildlife reserve. Cordoba is a very beautiful ancient city which was the capital of southern Spain under Roman rule. The Alcazar is a castle-palace in the city centre which was occupied by Spanish kings who received Columbus there before his voyage that led to the discovery of America.
Cordoba celebrates the festival of Nuestra Senora de la Salud each May and Nuestra Senora de la Fuensanta from 6th-9th September.
