The Parador Hotel in Cangas de Onis - Parador de Cangas de Onis
The four star Parador de Cangas de Onis was originally the Monastery of San Pedro de Villaneuva and dates back to the twelfth century. Tradition has it that King Alfonso I constructed the building and then a monastery was founded on the site and run by the Order of San Benito until the Desamortización de 1835. Two rooms remain with archaeological artefacts and pottery which was discovered during the refurbishment. The monastery was declared a National Monument in 1907.
Standing on the banks of the River Sella at the foothills of the mighty Picos de Europa awesome mountain peaks, the Parador de Cangas de Onis is an ideal place from which to explore Asturias and attractions such as the Basilica de Covadongas, Picos de Europa Park and Buelna, Toranda and Antolin beaches.

There are fascinating pre-historic and Paleolithic cave paintings at Tito Bustillo and Buxu, as well as rock art at Peña Tu.
