The four star Parador de Caceres was once a Torreorgaz Palace built on Arabic foundations. It was founded in the fourteenth century by Diego García de Ulloa, who was a knight of the Order of Santiago. It has a slender tower and features a door with a lintel and a Baroque coat of arms. The parador is located in centre of the historical and artistic quarter of Cáceres which has been declared a World Heritage Site and is a perfectly preserved old town sitting on top of a large hill rising above Plaza Mayor
The Parador de Caceres features Gothic, Renaissance and baroque architecture. The interior comprises an inner courtyard, cobblestones, wooden beams and the original mantelpiece in the living room. This impressive Parador is the result of the creative joining of five buildings; the former palace of the Marquis of Torreorgaz and four ancestral homes of former nobles. The Caceres Parador is located on a very quiet street and provides modern accommodations which blends harmoniously with the medieval city beyond its walls.
The Romans founded the city in the first century BC and its name is derived from the Arabic "alcazares" meaning fortified castles. The barrio antiguo old part of the town is enclosed by an ancient stone wall and is definitely an area for walking as a car would inhibit your exploring and become a parking nightmare.
The guest rooms are spacious and comfortable being decorated in soft cream shades.
The restaurant has an outdoor patio surrounded by orange trees and serves varied Extremadura cuisine including venison with Casar cheese and roast kid with rosemary. The hotel Parador de Caceres has a wine-cellar with more than 300 varieties of Spanish wine.
