The four star Parador de Avila stands on the site of the Piedras Albas Palace north of the historic city walls in the centre of Avila. The gardens are quite outstanding and are full of archaeological remains. There is a magnificent glazed patio, modular rooms and a cafeteria.
The spacious guest rooms at this parador are elegantly decorated with granite floors, brightly coloured furnishings and some come complete with a four poster bed. The accommodation in the hotel comprises 46 twin bedded rooms, 5 double bedrooms and 4 suites. All come well equipped with a television with TV canal plus, a telephone and a mini bar.
The dining room has beautiful views of the garden and historic city walls and serves local delicacies including "pucheretes teresianos" (vegetable and pork stew), roast suckling pig, veal steak, "judías de El Barco" (beans) and "yemas de la Santa" which is a dessert made from egg-yolk.
Aviles is a beautiful place to stay with walls encircling the town built the 12th century which are almost two miles long. Local attractions include the cathedral and the fortress, San Vicente Church and Monasteries of Santa Teresa and Santo Tomas. The "four posts" is a cross of stone with four pillars around it and from here there is a splendid view of the city and its walls.
During the first weekend of June is the "Ronda de las Leyendas" which re-enacts various events that have happened in the city in the past performed at the actual sites they occurred including the gate of the Walls, San Vicente church and Santa Teresa convent. During the first weekend of September a Medieval Market is held with active participation of most of the town’s residents and is well worth a visit.
