The three star Parador de Alcaniz was originally a castle which provided defence for the town. It is situated on top the Cumbre de Cerro-Pui Pinos hill and dominates the landscape of the Maestrazgo region. It was converted to an Aragonese Palace in the eighteenth century, but its original keep and bell tower-sacristy still remain and the original rooms still have ceilings which are almost four metres high and one metre thick. The nearest airport is Zaragoza which is 105km away and the train station is a 65km journey.
The Parador de Alcaniz is a palace which dates back to the twelfth century. It has a baroque façade with gothic walls and interior that is still furnished traditionally. It is situated in the province of Teruel and offers its guests ample opportunity to explore the area or take part in some adventure sports as the parador organises a large number of varied excursions and activities.
The guest accommodation comprises 28 twin and 7 double bedded rooms plus two suites that are all elegantly furnished and equipped with air conditioning/heating, ensuite private bathroom, satellite television, direct dial telephone and mini bar.
The Parador de Alcaniz has a fully equipped gymnasium and sauna for use by its guests. La Concordia is a traditional restaurant with high beamed ceilings and a large open fireplace. The excellent regional cuisine served here includes "huevos a la Alcanizana" which is a local egg dish, "ternasco asado" (roast lamb) and "tortas de la y almendrados (almond tart) accompanied by a good selection of local wines. There is a welcoming bar with medieval décor and tapestries and murals adorning the walls located in the converted stables of the parador.

History:
This Parador is located in a 12th-13th century castle-convent in the “Cumbre de Cerro Pui-Pinos”. The castle became the seat of the Order of Calatrava in 1179. It keeps the bell tower-sacristy and one part has been reconverted into an 18th century Aragonese palace, with gothic walls, plateresque tomb and baroque façade, its interiors has soft, orange-colored shades, adorned with Spanish wood in furniture and beams.
