The Parador Hotel in Alcala de Henares - Hosteria de Alcala Henares
The three star rated Hosteria de Alcala de Henares is situated in the beautiful Colegio Menor de San Jeronimo University which was founded by Cardinal Cisneros in 1510. The building is designed in Mudejar and Renaissance style and has a garden, central well, columns and arcades. It has a "Trilingual Courtyard" so named because it was the place where the three languages of Latin, Greek and Hebrew were originally taught. The restaurant opened in 1929 and many of its traditional Castilian recipes still date back to that time. It is situated right inside the university campus and has a wonderful traditional feel with a 4.5 metre open fireplace, oil lamps hanging from the wooden beams crossing the ceiling and pigskins filled with local wine. The furniture is traditional rope covered chairs and high backed carved wood settees
The Hosteria de Alcala de Henares offers an extremely large and tasty three-course table d’hote lunch or dinner with regional Castilian specialties including roast suckling lamb, huevos comigos (eggs fried with mushrooms), garlic soup, stews and trout Navarre style. For dessert try "costrada" which is an almond and puff pastry from Alcala or sample the cheese produced in La Mancha.
